SIU students finish in top 12 in global trading challenge

Under the guidance of Tim Marlo, clinical associate professor in the School of Analytics, Finance and Economic, a team of SIU students recently bested more than 930 teams in an international trading challenge, earning fourth place in North America and 12th place in the world.


Faculty and Staff Excellence Award nomination deadline is Feb. 3

Know someone who inspires you with their incredible talent, passion and commitment? Nominate them for a Faculty and Staff Excellence Award. The awards recognize tenured, tenure-track, non-tenure track faculty, along with civil service and administrative professional staff. The nomination deadline is 4:30 p.m. Feb. 3.


Salukis take over ‘Music City’

The six-day “Saluki Takeover Tour” through Nashville, Tennessee, that ended on Jan. 22 gave university officials a chance to visit local high school, and a local community college to tell the SIU story and to connect with alumni.


Chancellor Lane appointed to NCAA Honors Committee

Chancellor Austin A. Lane has been appointed to the nine-member NCAA Honors Committee, which reviews nominations and selects recipients for awards.


L.E.A.D. nominations deadline is Feb. 1

Nominations are underway for the university’s second cohort of the L.E.A.D. SIU Carbondale initiative. L.E.A.D. stands for Leading, Empowering, Advocating and Developing talent for the university. The initiative identifies, engages and mentors a select group of faculty and staff interested in learning more about higher education leadership and the complexities of operating a public university in today’s world. The nomination deadline is Feb. 1.


Paul Simon Institute examines social media impact on journalism, politics and government

Shannon McGregor, a professor of journalism and political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Thursday, Jan. 26, to discuss the power and danger of social media.


Campus departments, colleges can sign up for Job and Internship Fair 

Campus departments and colleges, along with local businesses, can sign up for the Job and Internship Fair on Feb. 21. The fair, which is sponsored by SIU’s Career Development Center, connects students with career and internship opportunities.


Craft Shop offering wide variety of spring workshops for everyone

This spring, everyone is welcome to explore the wide variety of arts and crafts offered by the Craft Shop in the Student Center.


SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available 

The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for January 2023 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes information on SIU’s international shipping regulations and information regarding a foreign “talents” program.
