SIU student team makes finals in DOE’s solar power competition

With Kanchan Mondal, director of the School of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Materials Engineering at SIU, encouraging a multi-university collaborative approach, a team of students is among the finalists in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar District Cup Collegiate Design Competition.


Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge schedule for February 

The Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge at Old Main has several university hosts lined up for next month. The first host is Corné Prozesky, director, Recreational Sports and Services, on Wednesday, Feb. 2.


Morris Library plans special events on Feb. 2 for centennial of “Ulysses”

Morris Library will celebrate “Ulysses@100” with special events on Wednesday, Feb. 2, to mark the 100-year anniversary of James Joyce’s epic modernist novel. The celebration includes a display of rare books and readings.

Area musicians and internationally acclaimed artists will look to warm everyone’s spirit with the Winter Weekend Classical Musical Festival, Friday through Sunday, Feb. 4-6.


Talk on Afghanistan and UN’s global work, local impact is Sunday

A panel discussion on Sunday, Feb. 6, will explore local impact of the United Nations’ work globally, along with the organization’s efforts in Afghanistan both before and since the United States’ withdrawal in August. “The U.N. and Afghanistan: Connecting Global Roads to Local Goals” is from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carbondale Civic Center.
