SIU Law students get real-life experience in Metro East Criminal Justice Clinic 

SIU School of Law students David Voss and Jordan Blazek-Guinan are gaining an intimate look into the state’s legal system and taking an active role in criminal legal proceedings. During the inaugural semester of the law school’s Metro East Criminal Justice Clinic led by Professor Shelly Page, the law school’s director of experiential education, Voss and Blazek-Guinan are working in the St. Clair County state’s attorney and public defender offices, respectively.  


COVID-19 booster clinic is Dec. 7 in Student Center 

SIU and the Jackson County Health Department will hold a walk-up COVID-19 booster clinic for faculty, staff and students from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Student Center’s ground floor main intersection. 


SIU hosting “I Stand with Immigrants” events Nov. 28-30 

The university is sponsoring “I Stand with Immigrants,” a three-day action campaign for education, promoting understanding and advocacy, today through Wednesday, Nov. 28-30. Everyone is welcome to attend.


Encourage students to register for spring classes 

Even with the end of the semester soon approaching, it’s not too late to remind students to register for classes. Faculty and staff are encouraged to remind students to register before leaving campus for break so that they can get the classes they want. 


Faculty-staff appreciation coffee is Tuesday  

A faculty-staff appreciation coffee hosted by Chancellor Austin Lane is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Student Center’s International Lounge prior to the university recognizing employees for their service and commitment and honor retiring employees at 10 a.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms.


Reminder: Prepare for inclement weather 

Faculty and staff should take two important steps to prepare for inclement weather: review the campus policy and ensure that the university has your current cellphone number if you want to receive emergency text alerts.


Night Safety Walk tonight 

University leaders and SIU students will walk through campus tonight, starting at 5 p.m. in Room 150 of the Student Services Building, to review critical areas for lighting and pathways. 


Art Over Easy returns to SIU’s Surplus Gallery Dec. 2 

Art Over Easy, the annual art auction and show hosted by SIU’s School of Art and Design, returns on Friday, Dec. 2. Featuring a unique display of original artwork from talented faculty, graduate students and local artists, the fundraising event, now in its 16th year, is from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Surplus Gallery, the main gallery in the Glove Factory, 432 S. Washington Ave. 


Commencement volunteers sought  

Volunteer opportunities are available for faculty, staff and community members who would like to help fall 2022 semester graduating Salukis celebrate their accomplishments during SIU Carbondale commencement exercises at Banterra Center on Dec. 17.  


Reminders on payroll, W-2 forms 

Human Resources-Payroll wants to remind employees who are responsible for entering or reporting time or sending paperwork, that December is a short month for running all of the necessary payrolls. Please pay attention to run dates on the December calendar so that everyone is paid correctly on their designated pay date. Please note that all payrolls will be run in advance of the university’s holiday closure, which begins on Dec. 24.
