SIU School of Law, Tougaloo College partner to increase diversity among attorneys
The university and Tougaloo College on Oct. 17 signed an agreement to help students from the private, historically Black liberal arts college enroll and earn a degree from the SIU School of Law, with the aim of diversifying the legal profession.
Conversation on hiring process, candidate evaluations is Tuesday
A Conversation of Understanding next week will look at the 2022 Campus Climate survey that found concerns about the hiring process and increasing representation of diverse members in leadership. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon Tuesday, Oct. 25. SIU Aviation continues to soar
In recognition of SIU Carbondale’s aviation history and accomplishments at Southern Illinois Airport, a new feature was added Oct. 13 when a Cessna 310R was mounted to a pole at the exit road of the Glenn Poshard Transportation Education Center and airport property. The plane was used to train aviation flight students until it was retired and joins a Cessna 150 that is at the airport entrance. The SIU School of Aviation is hosting a United Airlines-SIU Aviation Career Day on Saturday. The event will bring more than 110 Chicago-area high school students, along with dozens of area high school students to campus.
Local United Nations Day event will focus on food insecurity
An event next week commemorating ratification of the United Nations charter will focus on the intersection of food security and peace around the world.
Leadership training sessions available
Registration is open for the free leadership training sessions offered by the Staff Advisory Committee for the SIU System. The 4 ½-hour sessions will be in Student Services Building Room 150-160.
Graduate School is hosting graduate programs fair next month
The SIU Carbondale Graduate School is hosting the inaugural SIU Graduate School Fair on Nov. 17 in the Student Center’s Art Gallery, which is on the south end of the Student Center on the first floor. The free event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Jennifer Phillips chosen as New Student Programs director
Jennifer Phillips has been selected as the director of New Student Programs, bringing more than two decades of private and public educational experience to the position. She assumed her role in September, overseeing a variety of programs and initiatives to foster student success.
Kids get in free to Saluki football game on Oct. 29
Halloween is fast approaching and Saluki Football wants to treat every kid 12-and-under in Southern Illinois to a free ticket to a college football game when the Salukis host Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. Oct. 29. Additional details are on the athletics website.
Virtual workshop will help faculty, staff and students cope with stress
Sky@SIUC, a registered student organization, is hosting its 16th SKY Happiness Retreat Friday through Sunday, Oct. 21-23. The virtual retreat will focus on helping participants handle stress by promoting connectedness, self-care and the mental well-being of students, faculty and staff.
