Conversation on hiring process, candidate evaluations is Tuesday
A “Conversation of Understanding” next week will look at the 2022 Campus Climate survey that found concerns about the hiring process and increasing representation of diverse members in leadership. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon Tuesday, Oct. 25.
The event will feature an SIU community panel sharing findings and solutions based on the 2022 Viewfinder Campus Climate Survey. Panelists will address how candidates are evaluated based on the qualities and skills needed to define success in specific roles across SIU campuses. They will also share data about the racial and gender composition of leaders and faculty on SIU campuses.
Participants will also learn more about the myths of the most qualified applicant and how to address and reduce bias in the sourcing, recruiting, interviewing and evaluating process.
The meeting will be available on the SIU System’s YouTube channel.
A Q&A session will follow where participants can use the YouTube comment section. Questions may be submitted before or during the event by email to doris.williams@siu.edu.
This is the second session for the 2022-23 academic year. The Conversation of Understanding series began in June 2020 and is a series of virtual exchanges where students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members can share their experiences and thoughts on a variety of themes related to diversity, inclusion and equity.
The SIU System President’s Office and the SIU System Diversity Advisory Council are discussion sponsors.
