SIU Carbondale announces three strategic hires
After national searches, Chancellor Austin A. Lane is announcing the hiring of three campus leaders. Coming soon to SIU are Jeffery T. Burgin Jr., vice chancellor for student affairs; Fred Martino, director, WSIU Broadcasting Services, and Mark Owens, director, Facilities and Energy Management.
SIU plans Veterans Day commemoration
The university will mark the 40th anniversary of the vigil at the Old Main flagpole when commemorating Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov. 11. Organized by SIU’s ROTC programs, the vigil honors SIU and Southern Illinois veterans who served their country in the U.S. armed forces.
Have a spring class you want to promote?
In an effort to have 90% of returning students register for spring classes before Dec. 1, faculty and graduate assistants are invited to promote their courses by recording a 15-second video between 9 and 11 a.m. Nov. 15. The courses must not require a prerequisite. The short videos will be share on university social media accounts. To sign up, fill out this form. You will be contacted with a specific time and place.
SIU’s Concert Choir, Choral Union to perform Nov. 9
A musical performance featuring the university’s Concert Choir and Choral Union is set for Tuesday, Nov. 9, in Shryock Auditorium.
Geology and history major is SIU’s 2021 Lincoln Laureate
Francesca Burkett is the 2021 Lincoln Academy of Illinois student laureate for SIU Carbondale. She will receive the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award this month. The Lincoln Academy of Illinois presents the award to one outstanding graduating senior from each of the state’s four-year colleges and universities, as well as one from the state’s community colleges.
Big Muddy Film Festival pre-screenings are Sunday
Faculty and staff have a chance to provide input on films that will be part of next year’s Big Muddy Film Festival by participating in a pre-screening on Sunday, Nov 14.
