Veteran educator, administrator named SIU’s new VC for diversity, equity and inclusion

Paul Frazier, a veteran educator and administrator, will serve as the university’s vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion. His appointment is effective July 1, pending approval by the SIU Board of Trustees.


SIU geology professor creates NYC museum exhibit on mineral evolution

Daniel Hummer, assistant professor in the School of Earth Systems and Sustainability, is telling the history of minerals in the universe at New York City’s American Museum of Natural History. His exhibit, which went on display earlier this month, recounts the history of the original 12 minerals in the universe and how they evolved into thousands over billions of years, a relatively new approach in the field.


Veteran Student Health Services psychologist and administrator will now serve as its director

Jaime Clark has already devoted 16 years of her career to Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Health Services, and beginning July 1, she will become the permanent director.


Saluki Pride: Cherie Watson’s goal is the university’s ‘collective success’

Cherie Watson, the outreach and instruction librarian at Morris Library, not only works with students to enhance their learning experiences but also teaches an online course on introduction to library research. In encouraging students to become lifelong learners, she always makes time to meet with individual students for personalized research assistance. Plant and Service Operations to be named Facilities and Energy Management

Starting July 1, Plant and Service Operations will be Facilities and Energy Management. The new name is more modern and commonly used.


Fermentation Science Institute receives $1.1M from SIU Foundation

The SIU Foundation is providing a $1.1 million grant for further infrastructure development within McLafferty Annex and to accelerate expansion of Fermentation Science Institute activities.


SIU workshop will show businesses how to become vendors

A workshop next week will assist the region’s small businesses in reaching out to state and federal purchasing agents.
