SIU workshop will show businesses how to become vendors

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale is hosting a workshop next week to assist the region’s small businesses in reaching out to state and federal purchasing agents.

The university’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center is hosting a free Government Contracting Industry Day on June 30. The in-person workshop will provide an opportunity for small business owners to meet purchasing agents, learn what products and services their agencies are buying and the steps they need to take to get started as a vendor.

“This event will help our local companies find new customers for their businesses, which in turn will bring more venue to Southern Illinois and create more jobs,” said Michelle Stokes, coordinator for the Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center.
