From the Chancellor

Welcome to the fall semester!

I am excited to get started on my first semester as chancellor, and I am eager to connect with new and returning faculty, staff and students.

Former U.N. ambassador, SIU alumnus McHenry to hold virtual discussion 

Donald McHenry, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and an SIU Carbondale alumnus, will reflect on the foreign policy challenges facing the nation during a virtual discussion on Wednesday.


New Hire Insurance enrollment period information 

Faculty and staff are reminded by Central Management Services that new hires who qualify for the State Employee Group Insurance Program (SEGIP) have 30 calendar days from the start of their contract to make health, dental, vision, and life and dependent coverage choices.


Individual coaching available for Microsoft Teams

The Office of Information Technology is offering 30-minute Microsoft Teams coaching sessions to faculty, staff, and students. These sessions are designed to help users learn how to use the power of Teams to conduct meetings, connect with the campus community, and share work and files.


Updates to MCAP and DCAP plans are available

With guidance from the Internal Revenue Service, Central Management Services is implementing provisions which may impact members’ enrollments in the Medical Care Assistance Plan (MCAP) and Dependent Care Assistance Plan (DCAP) in fiscal years 2020 and 2021.


SIU updates student code to support campus and community safety

Students returning to campus this week are focused on safety as well as academics. From wearing face masks to social distancing, they are paying attention to the guidance received from the university.


Student employment guidelines reminder

Faculty and staff are reminded of additional guidelines Student Employment is implementing this semester regarding student employment.


‘Mask and Meet’ locations

Faculty and staff can direct students to receive their masks at multiple locations. Students should be reminded they need their student ID.
