Supporting Saluki success through graduation, Part 2

In my last blog post, I outlined some of the ways we are focusing on student retention, including our efforts to provide early connections, specialized support and a robust campus life. Here are some other attributes that contribute to student retention.

Plaza groundbreaking, Alumni Center grand opening headline SIU Alumni Association Homecoming plans

The SIU Alumni Association later this month will break ground on Saluki Alumni Plaza, a new campus landmark, and officially open the newly completed Alumni Center as part of its 2019 Homecoming festivities.


‘Start Seeing Pink’ October events raise awareness and money for scholarships 

The university is adding pink to its color scheme in October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.


Mandatory Ethics training is underway 

Mandatory 2019 annual ethics training for all SIU faculty, staff, graduate assistants, volunteers, student employees, and extra help employees is underway through Oct. 31 on the Desire2Learn (D2L) platform. School of Medicine employees who are on the Carbondale campus will complete training using HealthStream.


Southern Illinois Research Park receives $50,000 SBA ‘Growth Accelerator’ award

The Southern Illinois Research Park has received a $50,000 growth accelerator award from the U.S. Small Business Administration to support women entrepreneurs.  


Workshop on science communication set for Oct. 8

The University Council on Water Resources is sponsoring a Science Communication Workshop for staff, students and faculty next week on campus.

Three Small Business Development Center workshops are planned for the rest of year, including one set for Monday.


Faculty/staff regalia orders can be taken today

A representative of Herff Jones is on campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in Anthony Hall, Room 15, to assist faculty and staff in ordering regalia. To ensure regalia arrives prior to the fall 2019 commencement on Dec. 14, orders must be placed by Nov. 1.
