Workshop on science communication set for Oct. 8

The Universities Council on Water Resources is sponsoring a Science Communication Workshop for staff, students and faculty next week on campus.

The council, a national professional organization housed in the Department of Forestry, is cosponsoring the event along with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Center for Ecology. The workshop is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Morris Library rooms 752-754. The workshop is free, but space is limited. Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
Nicole Wilkinson McIntosh, coordinator for research and outreach at North Caroline State University, will act as instructor for the workshop. The session will offer participants ways to improve the impact and meaning of their research through effective communication and visualization.

Participants will explore and apply concepts through instruction, individual exercises, group discussions and videos, while also reflecting on their own research, projects and professional initiatives for context. They will identify key benefits of their work and learn how to tailor messages for maximum meaning for target audiences and also gain fresh insights into oral and poster presentations.
Participants also will learn how to achieve big impact through small design details and different ways to visualize key information. They also will learn to identify opportunities to improve visual aspects of communication.
