Studying at a major research institution confers a wealth of benefits upon our students. They are constantly pushed to explore real-world problems and come up with practical solutions. The result is a level of leadership and innovation that never fails to impress.

‘Decal-By-Mail’ program available through Sunday

Eligible faculty and staff are reminded that the Department of Public Safety Division’s “Decal-By-Mail” program is available through July 1. Return all completed forms to the SIU Parking Division in Trueblood Hall.


SIU beer, more facilities on tap for Fermentation Science Institute

An SIU beer is just one of the big things on track for SIU’s Fermentation Science Institute. The fledgling, interdisciplinary program is aimed at training the professional brewers, vintners and distillers of tomorrow for key jobs in those growing industries. 


Plight of undocumented immigrants leads Varnau to Fulbright Award

Mary Kate Daily Varnau, Department of English, is the recipient of a Fulbright Independent Student Researcher award to fund a six-month stint in Mexico to film videos of deported immigrants and conduct research for a book inspired by her college friendship with an undocumented immigrant and the stories that so often fill the news these days.


Morris Library and Carbondale to honor Willie “Jimbo” Slaughter Saturday 

Morris Library will be the site of a special ceremony and dedication to honor Willie Jim “Jimbo” Slaughter, a Carbondale man, who died June 20, 1963, the day after a tragic fall suffered during construction of the facility.
