Adventure, fun, relaxation await at Touch of Nature’s Friends and Family Camp

SIU Carbondale's Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center is hosting the second annual memory-making Friends and Family Camp, May 1-3. This unique getaway is open to all ages. It’s a return to a simpler era by enjoying evenings around a toasty campfire, creating arts and crafts keepsakes, and much more.


Morton-Kenney Lecture examines conflict escalation and the war in Iran

Nationally recognized political violence and international security affairs expert Robert A. Pape will present “Iran, the Escalation Trap, and the Coming Most Dangerous Election” at the spring 2026 Morton-Kenney Public Affairs Lecture at 5 p.m. Friday, April 3, in the SIU Simmons Law School Lesar Law Building Auditorium.


SIU to retire People Finder, shift to Microsoft 365 tools for directory use

SIU Carbondale’s Office of Information Technology will retire the custom “People Finder” directory on siu.edu for people-and-organization lookup, and shift to Microsoft 365’s built-in People Search and Org Explorer tools for Outlook and Teams. The change is scheduled for May 31, 2026.


SIU Faculty Senate food drive starts Wednesday

The SIU Faculty Senate is partnering with the Saluki Food Pantry to collect non-perishable food items to help SIU Carbondale students facing food insecurity during the summer months. The “Feed the Pack” food drive begins Wednesday, April 1, and runs through May 1.


Student Speakers Forum on April 2 looks at redefining success

Five SIU Carbondale undergraduate students will redefine success at the Student Speakers Forum at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium.


Free mental health first aid training and certification May 15

Faculty, staff and students can sign up now and earn their mental health first aid certification at no cost. SIU’s Wellness and Health Promotion Services is offering a training session on May 15 to help participants learn how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health challenges or substance use.


Saluki Takeover Tour Central Illinois strengthens connections

SIU Carbondale brought the Saluki Takeover Tour to Central Illinois last week, drawing nearly 250 attendees in Springfield and more than 100 in Peoria while engaging students, alumni, educators and industry partners across the region.


Reminder: Saluki Remembrance Day ceremony is Thursday

SIU Carbondale will remember six faculty, staff and students who have passed away during the 2025-2026 academic year with a ceremony at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 2, in the Student Center Ballrooms. 


Reminder: Encourage students to register for summer, fall classes

Faculty and staff are encouraged to remind students that a great way to stay on track and complete their degrees on time is to register for summer and fall classes for the 2025-2026 academic year. Advanced registration opens on Tuesday, March 31, on a staggered schedule.
