SIU Carbondale awards full-ride Chancellor’s Scholarships to high achieving students
SIU Carbondale recently announced 30 recipients of the university’s prestigious 2026 Chancellor's Scholarships. Chancellor Austin A. Lane and other university officials made surprise visits to 24 high schools in the Southern Illinois and Metro East regions this past week to deliver the good news in person.

Join in SIU’s 2026 International Festival, global cultural celebration
SIU Carbondale celebrates its diversity, inclusiveness and the many cultures the university and surrounding area embrace during the 2026 International Festival, set for Feb. 9-13.
Budget management report training session is Monday
The Office of Administration and Finance is offering one additional in-person training session to help SIU Carbondale employees learn to use the new Saluki Budget Management Report. This session is from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9. in Morris Library.
Volunteer judges needed for Region 8 Science Fair
Volunteers can play a vital part in ensuring the success of the annual Illinois Junior Academy of Science Region 8 Science Fair on Feb. 24. Faculty, staff, SIU students and community member judges are needed as more than 150 students from across the region from grades 7-12 will be competing.
Position budget report training sessions set
The Office of Administration and Finance is offering in-person training sessions to help SIU Carbondale employees learn how to access and use the new Position Budget Report, another Power BI report to complement the new Saluki Budget Management Report. Training sessions are available Monday, Feb. 9 to Feb. 19.
Reminder: ‘Unleashed’ is today
The kickoff for Unleashed: A Salukis After-Hours Social for faculty, staff and retirees, is today, Feb. 5, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Old Main Lounge.
Saluki men’s basketball to honor Mike Glenn Friday
The Saluki men’s basketball team will honor SIU Hall of Fame men’s basketball player Mike Glenn with his jersey retirement when it hosts Murray State at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Banterra Center. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
New Arts Jazztet to perform Sunday
Members of the New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty and guests, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service, at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale. NAJ was formed in 1984 by several School of Music faculty and has been in residence since that time. The performance will feature works by Clifford Brown, Gabriel Mark Hasselbach, Keith Jarrett, Hubert Laws, Gerry Niewood and Richard Niles. The service will also be livestreamed on the Jazz Vespers at Epiphany Facebook page.
