Join the fun at Touch of Nature Haunted Hollow on Oct. 19
Haunted Hollow, the always popular fall family fun fest at SIU Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center, returns Sunday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Compensation 2030 open forums today and Wednesday
Human Resources has scheduled additional open forums to address questions raised regarding the staff results of the Compensation 2030 study. Forums will be today, Oct. 13, and Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Reminder: Flu immunizations available on campus Oct. 16, 22
All active and retired SIU Carbondale employees, their dependents and surviving spouses enrolled in a state-sponsored health plan can receive free flu immunizations during walkup clinics from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, and Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the Student Center’s Renaissance Room.
Record crowd attends Chancellor’s Reception during Saluki Takeover Tour Chicago
A record crowd of nearly 425 SIU Carbondale alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends attended the Chancellor’s Reception Oct. 9 as part of last week’s Saluki Takeover Tour Chicago. SIU teams traveled across the Chicago metro area for more than two dozen recruiting, alumni and corporate engagement events. University leaders visited high schools and community colleges to meet with students, counselors and administrators.
SIU Symphony Orchestra to perform Oct. 21
The Southern Illinois University Symphony Orchestra will present a free, public concert on Tuesday, Oct. 21, beginning at 7 p.m. in Shryock Auditorium.
Virtual Illinois Online Higher Education Symposium is Nov. 7
SIU Carbondale faculty, staff and graduate students are invited to participate in a free, virtual symposium on Nov. 7, which will bring together educators, administrators, instructional designers and instructional technologists involved in online learning in Illinois and beyond. The “Doing Less with Less, Effectively: Illinois Higher Education Symposium” is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
SIU to host fun, hands-on STEM careers conference for grades 5-9
Girls and boys in grades 5-9 can have fun exploring careers in science, technology, engineering, math and more during the annual Expanding Your Horizons conference at SIU Carbondale on Saturday, Nov. 1. The early registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 17. Registration closes Oct. 28.
SIU hosts local high school, middle school musicians on Percussion Day
Between 50 and 70 middle school and high school percussion students from throughout Southern Illinois will be on campus on Wednesday, Oct. 15, as part of SIU Percussion Day.
Student Health Services and Red Cross host Nov. 7 blood drive
Student Health Services is partnering with the American Red Cross to sponsor a community blood drive on Friday, Nov. 7. The blood drive is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Health Center, Room 111.
Saluki men’s basketball hosts Austin Peay on Friday
Hoops fans can get an early look at the 2025-26 Saluki season when the men’s basketball team hosts Austin Peay in an exhibition game at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Banterra Center. Admission and parking are free, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
