CAM hosts global media, arts conference to address uncertainty

An international conference that brings together scholars and artists using media and the arts to address the uncertainty of disorienting times will be hosted Oct. 16-19 by the College of Arts and Media.


Flu immunizations will be available on campus Oct. 16, 22 

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) will provide free flu immunizations for all active and retired SIU Carbondale employees, their dependents and surviving spouses enrolled in a state-sponsored health plan. The two walk-up flu shot clinics will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 and Oct. 22 in the Student Center’s Renaissance Room. 


HRSS is currently accessible in two ways 

The Office of Information Technology wants to let the campus community know that SIU’s HRSS portal (Human Resources Self Service) is available in two ways. Employees working on campus can easily access HRSS via the SIU network, including Eduroam. Employees who are off campus can access HRSS through the SIU virtual private network (VPN).

Two Illinois families were honored as 2025 Saluki Family of the Year winners at SIU Carbondale during Saluki Family Weekend festivities, Oct. 3-5.


Reminder: Campus master plan surveys due Friday 

As part of the process to craft a new SIU Carbondale Facilities Master Plan, faculty, staff and students are invited to complete a brief online survey on how university facilities can better support their experience. The survey is open through Friday, Oct. 10, and all responses will be reviewed in aggregate. Take the survey now.


Mandatory annual Title IX training to launch Oct. 15

Mandatory Title IX training for all SIU Carbondale employees will begin on Oct. 15. To be compliant with Title IX regulations, all employees must complete training for 2025 before Dec. 19. The Office of Equity and Compliance updated the annual training to reflect current Title IX regulations. Email notifications will be sent to employees via Vector Solutions. A link to the training will also be available on the Office of Equity and Compliance website.


Sharp Museum series highlights Oak Street Art Collective works

A series that highlights a collective of talented and creative women artists is in Sharp Museum. A reception and gallery talk by Luca Cruzat, one of the artists featured this month as part of the Oak Street Art Collective Members Series is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in the museum’s south hall.


Sign up now to join SIU’s 2025 Saluki Spooktacular Homecoming parade

Entries are now being accepted for SIU Carbondale’s 2025 Homecoming parade, which will make its way through the city streets and onto campus, beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 25. The entry deadline is 4:30 p.m. Oct. 22.


Civil Service Advisory Committee petitions available

University civil service employees have until Oct. 21 to petition for election to the State Universities Civil Service Advisory Committee. One civil service employee will be elected to serve on the committee for a four-year term from Jan. 1, 2026, to Dec. 31, 2029. 


SIU President Mahony: ‘Inside the Evolving Classroom: A Deeper Look at the Changes and Challenges’ 

SIU System President Dan Mahony’s “Office Hours” latest podcast is “Inside the Evolving Classroom: A Deeper Look at the Changes and Challenges.” Mahony recently talked with 2025 SIU System Collaboration Award recipients Jyotsna Kapur, professor of cinema and media studies and former director of the University Honors Program at SIU Carbondale, and Eric Ruckh, associate professor of history and director of the John Martinson Honors Program at SIU Edwardsville.

Events and Outreach is announcing a virtual faculty and staff regalia sale through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia. Graduate students wishing to purchase regalia rather than rent are also welcome. 


Alumnus establishes School of Music travel endowment to put SIU students on national stages 

What began with a passion for music on a Southern Illinois farm has come full circle for alumnus Russell C. Riepe. With a $25,000 gift, he established the Dr. Russell C. Riepe School of Music Student Travel Endowment Fund, giving students opportunities to perform and present their work beyond campus.
