SIU officials to visit local schools as part of Saluki Takeover Tour
This month’s Saluki Takeover Tour Southern Illinois will include officials visiting many high schools in the region, where seniors will celebrate their commitment to attend SIU Carbondale this fall. The April 3-22 tour kicks off at Marion High School.
SIU chooses dean for Library Affairs
William H. Walters, executive director of the Mary Alice & Tom O’Malley Library at Manhattan University, will become SIU Carbondale’s next dean of Library Affairs. Sheryl Tucker, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, announced today (April 3) Walters’ appointment, effective July 1, subject to approval by the SIU Board of Trustees.
Saluki Remembrance Day ceremony is April 16
SIU Carbondale will remember 10 faculty, staff and students who have passed away during the 2024-2025 academic year with a ceremony at 1 p.m. April 16 in the Student Center Ballrooms.
College of Arts and Media symposium focuses on integrating AI
The College of Arts and Media is hosting a symposium on April 11 to showcase the work of faculty, students and professionals who are using artificial intelligence in their innovative process and creative endeavors. The free, public CAM x AI: Innovating Creativity Symposium is in Morris Library.
SIU Youth Orchestra spring concert is Sunday
The School of Music will present the SIU Carbondale Youth Orchestra concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in Shryock Auditorium. The free, public concert will feature 30 musicians ranging from 9 to 17 years old years old performing a selection of works by renowned composers, including Gustav Holst, Robert Casadesus, Johann Sebastian Bach, Pietro Mascagni and Antonio Vivaldi.
Learn about business resources and broadband through SIU meetups
Courtesy of the Office of Innovation and Economic Development, a series of Business Resource Meetup and Broadband READY Meetup events this month will offer insight into the many valuable services and programs available to businesses, along with the current status of broadband/internet connectivity in the region.
Sculptor, SIU alumnus to present visiting artist talk today
Sculptor and SIU Carbondale alumnus Tim Kowalczyk will give a free, public artist talk about his work in Wham Room 105 at 7 p.m. today, April 3.
SIU alum to discuss how he launched a successful business while in school
SIU Carbondale automotive technology alumnus Adam Wolfe will discuss his journey from student to successful businessman at 6:30 p.m. April 10 at Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center. The free, public event is hosted by the Saluki Entrepreneur Corps.
Busy week ahead for Saluki sports
There are numerous chances to see your favorite Saluki teams compete over the next week. The Saluki baseball team has four home games at Itchy Jones Stadium — a doubleheader against Missouri State starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 6, with the series finale on Monday, April 7, at a time to be determined, and against Southeast Missouri State at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. Meanwhile, the Saluki softball team hosts Indiana State at Charlotte West Stadium at 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. Due to the weather, the schedules are subject to change, so be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
