SIU Carbondale’s summer 2024 enrollment rises  

Following a strong fall and spring, SIU Carbondale is enjoying increasing enrollment this summer, up about 3.4% from last year. 


SIU researchers study how giant cane bamboo remnants affect ecosystems 

Researchers Jim Zaczek and Thanchira “M.J.” Suriyamongkol are studying the role remnants of a once common bamboo species play in improving soil and water, supporting wildlife and the effects of nearby forests.


Volunteers needed to help Salukis move in this fall 

Volunteers from the campus and community can help roll out the welcome mat for new and returning Salukis by helping them move in to their new homes before the fall 2024 semester begins. Signup to help is encouraged by Aug. 8.


Watch your inbox for the job analysis questionnaire  

As part of Compensation 2030, a project to create an updated, more equitable and more competitive compensation system at SIU Carbondale, civil service and administrative/professional employees will receive an email on Monday, July 29, from noreply@qemailserver.com with a request to complete the job analysis questionnaire (JAQ).


SIU student research to be showcased at symposium

The 21st annual Summer Research Symposium is set for 10-11:30 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Morris Library’s first-floor rotunda. The symposium will include the work of eight students participating in the McNair Scholars program and nine students in the SI Bridges to Baccalaureate program.


DPS volunteers distribute water to people in need  

Members of SIU’s Department of Public Safety gave water and granola bars to more than 100 individuals in apparent need, along with social service agencies, on Monday, July 22.


Changes at SIU System risk management office 

The SIU System Office of Risk Management has been renamed SIU System Office of Risk Management Insurance Programs. Additionally, Peg Ittner has been appointed as the new director after a recent search. Ittner most recently served as assistant director of this office before this promotion. SIU Simmons Law School hosts legal symposium in Belleville 

In its continuing effort to provide quality outreach programs, the SIU Simmons Law School is hosting a free continuing legal education symposium at the Southwestern Illinois Justice and Workforce Development Campus in Belleville Aug. 9 for licensed attorneys in Illinois and Missouri.


Reminder: New forms for time-keeping

Effective July 1, all monthly paid exempt and nonexempt administrative/professional (AP) and semi-monthly paid civil service employees should use revised time-recording sheets.
