Time to celebrate the eclipse
To celebrate Monday’s eclipse, the university will have four days of festivities, including a research workshop, concert, Eclipse Con, a science and technology expo, and arts and crafts fair. The fun starts on Friday, April 5, and culminates with Eclipse Day at Saluki Stadium on April 8.
Simonds lecture to focus on presidential power
Legal historian, bestselling author and entrepreneur Logan Beirne will discuss presidential power through the nation’s history during a free, public lecture on Tuesday, April 9, at the SIU School of Law. Beirne will present “A History of Presidential Power.”
Sculpture to help commemorate eclipse, raise funds for artists
An eclipse sculpture designed by Jack Nawrot, a senior scientist emeritus at SIU Carbondale, will give campus visitors another way to commemorate the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8.
Paul Simon Institute hosts leading Chicago business executive
John W. Rogers Jr., a nationally prominent and respected entrepreneur based in Chicago, will visit the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Thursday, April 11, to discuss his path-breaking career in business, public service and philanthropy.
Campus Mail Service to suspend delivery on Monday
Campus Mail Service will suspend mail delivery on Monday, April 8, due to campus congestion and road and parking lot closures for the Eclipse Day events. Mail delivery will resume as normal on Wednesday, April 10.
SIU hosts virtual discussion on ‘Queerness and Television’ April 9
Award-winning filmmakers Joey Soloway and Silas Howard will discuss bringing queer, trans and LGTBQ+ identities to the screen during their virtual presentation on Tuesday, April 9.
SIU Book/Vinyl and Media sale is April 12-13
Treasures and hard-to-find items will be discovered when the Friends of Morris Library and WSIU Radio host a massive public sale in Morris Library on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13.
Busy Saluki sports week ahead
The Saluki men’s and women’s track and field teams compete Saturday, April 6, on Senior Day when they host the Bill Cornell Invite at Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex. The SIU baseball team hosts Southeast Missouri State at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Itchy Jones Stadium.
SIU will host “Friday Night Lights” with an intersquad scrimmage starting at 6 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Du Quoin High School. The scrimmage is free and open to the public. There will also be an opportunity for first-time buyers to purchase season tickets at half price. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
Sign up now for SIU’s inaugural Glow Run on April 17
The inaugural SIU Glow Run is set for 7 p.m. April 17 at Campus Lake, and everyone is welcome to participate. Participants are encouraged to bring their glow and neon accessories.
Reminder: Discussion on support for first year students is April 10
Faculty, staff and graduate assistants are invited to attend the second roundtable discussion about supporting students in their first year at SIU Carbondale. The session is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Faculty and Staff Lounge, Student Center Old Main Room.
No SIU Today on Monday
There will be no SIU Today on Monday, April 8, as the university community gathers to celebrate the total solar eclipse. The submission deadline for the April 11 SIU Today is Tuesday, April 9.
