Paul Simon Institute seeks Illinois college students to revitalize democracy

The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute has announced an award that will go to current Illinois college or university students for the design and implementation of projects to revitalize democracy in their communities.


SIU System establishes ADEI award 

The Southern Illinois University System has established an ADEI Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize staff and faculty members for their efforts in creating, sustaining and expanding antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. The recognition is for staff and faculty members whose careers include generally 20 years or more of documented service and advocacy in ADEI initiatives that result in greater justice and belonging for all in the SIU community.


Remember to wear maroon on Spirit Friday 

Warmer weather brings baseball, softball and numerous outdoor events where maroon is the fashion color of choice, particularly on Spirit Fridays. And as the Missouri Valley Conference men’s and women’s basketball tournaments approach, faculty and staff are encouraged to show Saluki pride and wear maroon the rest of the week and participate in a door decorating contest, which is underway through March 10. More information about the contest and the form to enter are available here. The men’s basketball team is the No. 3 seed in this week’s State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Arch Madness tournament and play their first game at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Fans also proudly wore maroon Tuesday at Itchy Jones Stadium for the Saluki baseball home opener against St. Louis University. The baseball team is home this weekend, and the softball team hosts the Saluki Invitational, which is now scheduled for Saturday through Monday. Be sure and tag your favorite photo in Saluki best with #SpiritFriday. 


SIU School of Law’s Ryan Bioethicist Lecture to examine future of reproductive rights   

Radhika Rao, a law professor who has written extensively about reproductive rights, will deliver the 2023 John and Marsha Ryan Bioethicist in Residence lecture at the SIU School of Law on Wednesday, March 8. 


SIU student cybersecurity team among top in the Midwest 

SIU Carbondale’s student cybersecurity team placed as one of the top teams among students from three states during a recent competition, catapulting the Security Dawgs into an additional round of competition this weekend.


Don’t get caught: “The Mousetrap” hits SIU’s McLeod Theater stage March 7-9  

A classic murder mystery of seven snowbound strangers with tales of sordid pasts and intrigue will play out on the McLeod Theater stage next week through Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap.” 


Dates open in March for Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge at Old Main 

The Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge at Old Mainhas several openings available for March.  A “Let's Talk Tech” session hosted by the Office of Information Technology is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 8. There also are openings available throughout the spring semester. Anyone interested in reserving the faculty-staff lounge for an event, or who would like to serve as a host, can email events@siu.edu. 


Everyone welcome at SIU’s Holi festival March 8

Holi, a traditional Hindu spring festival celebrated in India, is coming to campus. Everyone is welcome to attend the festivities featuring guest speakers and more, starting at 2 p.m. March 8 at Morris Library.
