SIU’s $13M interdisciplinary food and biotech research hub advances

The SIU Board of Trustees today (April 28) approved agreements clearing the way for a new multimillion-dollar interdisciplinary research and economic development hub, capitalizing on SIU Carbondale’s research into food, fermentation and biotechnology.


SIU 2022 Sturgis Award recipient Casey Parker has a passion in volunteering

SIU Carbondale Sturgis Award recipient Casey Parker’s penchant for volunteering started early in Crawford County with the guidance of both sets of grandparents. Her desire to be involved and help continues. Parker, who is coordinator for the Office of Equity and Compliance, was honored for her altruism with the 2022 Lindell W. Sturgis Memorial Public Service Award today (April 28).


SIU Carbondale, Scouts BSA’s pact opens opportunities for youths in 5 states

An agreement between SIU Carbondale and the Scouts BSA Greater St. Louis Area Council and Lincoln Heritage Council will provide educational possibilities for Scouts in five states and encourage them to pursue STEM careers.


Saluki Pride: Ty Perry brings global recognition to SIU finance students and program

Ty Perry, a finance clinical assistant professor in the College of Business and Analytics, has done much to bring global recognition to the finance program and its students and to increase Saluki student pride, his colleagues say. That includes SIU’s admission to the Chartered Financial Analyst University affiliation program, which elevates the profile and recognition of the finance program and its students. 32 faculty members earn tenure, promotion

In its last two meetings, including today, April 28, the SIU Board of Trustees approved promotions in academic rank and tenure for 32 faculty members effective with the 2022-2023 academic year or the 2023 fiscal year beginning in July.

Marc Morris to receive 2022 SIU Distinguished Alumni Award

Marc E. Morris, interim associate provost for academic administration and a three-degree SIU Carbondale alumnus, will be among those alumni recognized by the SIU Alumni Association during a Friday, April 29, dinner and ceremony in Banterra Center’s Charles Helleny Pavilion.


Horticulture plant sale is Saturday

The SIU Horticulture Association and the SIU Sustainability Center are hosting a plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Agronomy Research Center classroom, 3268 W. Pleasant Hill Road, Carbondale, west of the U.S. 51 and Pleasant Hill Road intersection. The sale will feature numerous well-grown annuals and herbaceous perennials. SIU honors 18 students for outstanding leadership, service

Eighteen students from SIU Carbondale have received the Outstanding Leadership and Service Awards for Graduating Seniors, which recognizes commitment to leadership, service and improving the campus.

The campus community is invited to hear SIU President Dan Mahony's discussion on the SIU System’s strategic plan during a presentation from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Student Center Auditorium.


SIU Today begins summer schedule May 12 

After the spring semester ends on May 7, SIU Today will begin its summer schedule and come out once a week, each Thursday, beginning May 12.
