Celebrate SIU’s Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month
Southern Illinois University is commemorating Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month Sept. 15-Oct. 15 with a variety of special events and presentations, including the premiere of a documentary created by an SIU student and a special art exhibit by an SIU alumna.
University welcomes 26 new faculty this fall
SIU Carbondale is welcoming 26 new tenure-track faculty to campus for the fall 2021 semester.
SIU continues building partnerships with local educators, legislative leaders
Since 2020, the university has taken several measures to strengthen ties with local leaders, including superintendents, principals, counselors and state legislators. On Sept. 9, SIU officials and staff met with local leaders to provide updates on university initiatives and reinforce that students can get a premier education close to home.
Vaccination clinics continue this week
The free, on-campus COVID-19 vaccination clinics in the Student Center Cambria Room for faculty, staff and students continue this week. The first- and second-dose clinics will be held today through Friday, Sept. 13-17. Second dose vaccinations will also be available Oct. 4-8. Information on vaccinations, including times, and campus pandemic safety protocols is available at siu.edu/coronavirus.

Ken Jennings, the world’s all-time top television game show winner, will speak Thursday night at Shryock Auditorium about “Importance of Education: Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, the role of higher education shaping the next 150 years.”

Saluki Athletics invites all SIU faculty and staff to be a part of the upcoming football faculty/staff appreciation game on Sept. 18, when the ninth-ranked Salukis host Dayton at Saluki Stadium.
Zoom workshop offered to help faculty, staff and students handle stress
The SKY Happiness Retreat, a virtual workshop promoting the mental well-being of students, faculty and staff is coming to SIU Sept. 18-20, courtesy of the Sky@SIUC registered student organization.
Webinar on COVID-19’s impact on rural children’s development is Thursday
Registration is open for a webinar at noon Thursday, Sept. 16, to discuss how COVID-19 has impacted the development of children living in rural areas. The Illinois Rural Health Summit organizing group, which includes the School of Medicine's Department of Population Science and Policy, Center for Rural Health and Social Service Development and the SIU Carbondale Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, have developed a set of recommendations to make immediate and long-term improvements in children’s development in rural Illinois.
