Town halls scheduled to receive feedback on SIU System strategic plan

SIU faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to participate in town halls to provide feedback on the draft mission, vision and goal statements for the SIU System strategic plan.


‘Saluki Safety’ session on COVID-19 safety measures is today

A virtual panel presentation updating the university community on COVID-19 safety measures and the spring semester will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. today, Feb. 12. The third “Saluki Safety” update will be hosted by Chancellor Austin A. Lane and include information on safety protocols, testing, events and other topics. A representative of the Jackson County Health Department will provide information on vaccine availability. Panelists will also respond to questions submitted by viewers. The presentation will be shown live at https://chancellor.siu.edu/ and the chancellor's YouTube channel, where it will also be posted for later viewing. 


Judges needed for student research, creative activities forum

Organizers with the Research and Creative Activities Virtual Forum are looking for faculty and graduate students to assist in judging an event that showcases student research and creative activities.


McNair Scholars program application deadline is March 24

Faculty and staff are encouraged to have students apply for the university’s McNair Scholars program. Eligible students work with faculty and staff in developing research and leadership skills that help prepare them for graduate school. Open to sophomores and juniors from any major with at least a 2.7 GPA, the application deadline is March 24. Contact the program at 618-453-4582 for more information.


Reminder: Prepare for inclement weather 

With the possibility of more inclement weather, faculty and staff should take two important steps to prepare: review the campus policy and ensure that the university has your current cellphone number if you want to receive emergency text alerts.


SIU’s 2021 Maple Syrup Festival canceled due to pandemic

The Maple Syrup Festival, a popular event held each February at Touch of Nature Environmental Center, is taking a hiatus in 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.


Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra tickets available

Tickets are available for the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra performance at Shryock Auditorium on Feb. 23.
