A Game-Changing Resolution

Last week, the Faculty Senate made a commitment that will benefit everyone associated with SIU Carbondale.  The intent to incorporate diversity and inclusion into all of the senate’s ongoing work, rather than set it aside as an “add-on,” is game-changing.

 

Election day is official state holiday 

According to a newly enacted Illinois law, November 3, 2020 -- election day --will be observed as a state holiday. The holiday declaration is only for 2020 in order to enhance opportunities to vote and promote voter safety during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.


SIU earns fifth consecutive Tree Campus USA honor 

For a fifth consecutive year, the university has earned national recognition as a 2019 Tree Campus USA for its commitment to a green and sustainable campus and effective urban forest management.


Chancellor meet and greet is today 

Chancellor Austin A. Lane will hold a virtual “meet and greet” event for faculty and staff from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. today, Thursday, July 23. Faculty and staff who would like to meet the chancellor can join at any time. Please register to participate. Information to access the event by Zoom or phone will be emailed no later than one hour before the event begins. The chancellor is holding a separate event for students.


Simon Institute to host virtual event with Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton

Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton will discuss how the state is confronting economic, public health and social challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in a virtual conversation next week hosted by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute.


Student Health Center to host Red Cross Blood Drive

The Student Health Center will host a Red Cross Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 31, in the auditorium.


‘OneDrive’ training on July 29 rescheduled 

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) recently postponed all OneDrive training sessions, but reinstated the session scheduled for Wednesday, July 29. The training time for this session has been changed to 11 a.m. from the previously scheduled time of 1:30 pm. Anyone who is interested in the 11 a.m. session must register by contacting Lisa Threlkeld at lthrelk@siu.edu. Upcoming OneDrive sessions will be announced in SIU Today when they resume.


Four SIU students earn Diversifying Higher Education Faculty fellowships 

Four graduate students have been chosen for the highly competitive Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois Fellowship.
