Day of Giving on Wednesday will celebrate successes, look to future

Join the SIU Carbondale community, alumni, parents, students and friends in supporting the university and its future during the 2020 Day of Giving on March 4, when university alumni and friends can support a range of programs and initiatives that will move the university forward.


Chemistry researcher’s CAREER grant to fund solar energy work modeled on tree leaves

Some look at a tree and see a lovely poem. Others, such as Pravas Deria, an assistant professor in chemistry and biochemistry, see in its leaves a perfect potential model for harnessing the sun’s energy.


Dependent Eligibility Verification Audit starts Tuesday

Central Management Services (CMS) audits all dependents who are on state insurance plans every five years through a Dependent Eligibility Verification Audit, or DEVA. The audit for 2020 for active university employees will begin Tuesday through April 25.


Portions of South Oakland Avenue to be closed beginning Monday

Faculty, staff and students are reminded that portions of South Oakland Avenue in Carbondale will be closed beginning today (March 2) through mid-August for a total replacement of storm sewers, pavement, curbs and sidewalks from Walnut Street to Freeman Street. The work will require that portions of the road be closed to through traffic.


SIU hosts Innovation and Entrepreneurship Day on March 4

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Day on Wednesday features a lineup of speakers with extensive business and entrepreneurship experience who will share what they’ve learned.


Saluki events set for this week in St. Louis

‘BigDawg’ lab sessions in March, April move to Fridays

The university’s “BigDawg” high performance computing cluster workshops continue this month and are moving to Friday afternoons beginning March 6.
