2019 fall commencement is Dec. 14

The academic achievements of more than 1,100 SIU Carbondale students will be celebrated at fall 2019 commencement exercises on Dec. 14.


Trustees make appointments, receive enrollment update 

The SIU Board of Trustees today (Dec. 5) approved Daniel F. Mahony as Southern Illinois University System president. He will begin his duties March 1. In addition, the board approved Meera Komarraju’s appointment as SIU Carbondale’s provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.


Poshards establish endowment for ‘Renewing Illinois’ initiative

The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute has received a $100,000 gift from Glenn and Jo Poshard for the Institute’s annual “Renewing Illinois” summit for college and university students in Illinois.

University Honors Program presents student showcase this week 

As the semester nears the end, the University Honors Program will present student work today and Friday on courses around the theme of “Survival.”


Deadline for student energy-related research opportunities is Friday 

Faculty and staff are asked to remind students of two research opportunities available for those who are interested in energy-related programs.


‘Human Rights Day’ to look at Kashmir

A program at the SIU School of Law on Sunday will look at the situation involving the dispute in Kashmir.


New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday 

New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprised of SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
