Cindy Buys, a professor in the SIU Simmons Law School known for her empathy and passion for community service and helping others, was honored today (April 16) at the SIU Board of Trustees meeting as the 2026 Lindell W. Sturgis Award recipient.
Morris Library to highlight Marianne Carus’ legacy, Cricket Magazine papers
An exhibition celebrating Marianne Carus’ international advocacy for children’s learning and well-being — and the opening of her papers for public research — begins at 4 p.m. Friday, April 17, in SIU Carbondale’s Morris Library.
42 faculty members earn tenure, promotion
The SIU Board of Trustees today, April 16, approved promotions in academic rank and tenure for 42 tenure-track faculty members effective with the 2026-2027 academic year or the 2027 fiscal year beginning in July.
SIU’s CPS Scholars program helps Chicago students succeed

Three artists share 2026 Rickert-Ziebold art award
Zach Abella, Kassideee Gabby and Autumn Meyer are winners of SIU Carbondale’s most prestigious art prize — the Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award. The exhibition continues through Saturday, April 18, in the SIU Surplus Gallery, with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
SIU Choral Union, Concert Choir to perform Tuesday
The SIU Choral Union and Concert Choir will showcase their combined talents drawing upon spirituals and gospel music during a free, public concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in Shryock Auditorium.
Saluki Takeover Tour draws nearly 150 to Lake of Egypt
Nearly 150 alumni, students and friends gathered earlier this month at Pyramid Acres Marina for the Lake of Egypt stop on the third annual Saluki Takeover Tour Southern Illinois. Chancellor Austin A. Lane and university leadership shared updates on the momentum at SIU Carbondale, as Lane and the admissions team continue the tour's focus by visiting local high schools and reaching students in all 17 Southern Illinois counties.
Southern Illinois Chamber Music Society performance is April 21
The Southern Illinois Chamber Music Society will present a concert featuring SIU School of Music faculty and guest artists at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, in the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall.
Saluki softball, football highlights the week
The Saluki softball team hosts Northern Iowa for three games Friday and Saturday, April 17-18, at Charlotte West Stadium. The games are at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. The annual SIU football spring game is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Saluki Stadium. Doors open at 5 p.m. and admission is free for all fans.
