SIU celebrates Earth Month in April with community feed, awards and more
“Our Power, Our Planet” is the theme as SIU Carbondale celebrates Earth Month with a variety of special events in April.
SIU’s Salukis Care Day supports student wellness, helping them thrive and succeed
Salukis Care Day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at Faner Plaza and the Student Services Building, and will feature a host of activities to help students relax, enjoy themselves, and enhance their mental health and well-being.
Commencement volunteers sought
Volunteer opportunities are available for faculty, staff and community members who would like to help spring 2026 graduating Salukis celebrate their accomplishments during SIU Carbondale commencement exercises at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 9 in Banterra Center.
SIU School of Music students to perform Yellow Moon Gyroid Concert Series
Students in the School of Music will showcase their talents when they perform at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in the Yellow Moon Gyroid Concert Series, in Morris Library’s third-floor rotunda.
SIU hosting concrete canoe, steel bridge competitions
It’s not every day you see a canoe dressed like a hot dog. With that visual in mind, imagine the canoe is also made of concrete — and is racing other canoes. It might seem unlikely, but it will be reality soon as SIU Carbondale's chapter of The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) hosts the 2026 Mid-America Symposium April 9-11.
University officials help forge a wind chime
School of Art and Design students supplied the fire, forge, hammers and anvils — along with instruction and encouragement — as SIU Carbondale officials helped forge a wind chime during a March 30 metalsmithing demonstration at Pulliam Hall.

SIU System President Dan Mahony’s latest “Office Hours” podcast is “Beyond the Bracket: The Future of College Athletics.” For this podcast, Mahony is the guest, and faculty athletic representatives lead the discussion. Tune in to hear Julie Partridge, a professor in the School of Human Sciences at SIU Carbondale, and Cherese Fine, an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at SIU Edwardsville, and Mahoney examine the evolving landscape of collegiate sports.
