School of Music hosts chamber ensemble Feb. 27
SIU Carbondale School of Music students will highlight their combined talents with a chamber ensemble on Friday, Feb. 27, in Shryock Auditorium. The free, public concert begins at 7 p.m.
Fourth annual Saluki Takeover Tour Florida unites alumni, expands student recruitment
The fourth annual Saluki Takeover Tour Florida drew more than 200 alumni and friends Feb. 10-12, as Chancellor Austin Lane and other university leaders stopped in St. Petersburg, Tampa and Naples to reconnect with Salukis and recruit future students.
SIU System Faculty Collaboration Award nominations open
The Faculty Advisory Committee for the SIU System (FACSS) is accepting applications for the 2026 Faculty Collaboration Award. The annual award recognizes faculty for impactful collaborative endeavors across SIU campuses in the areas of teaching, scholarship and creative activities, service and/or antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Reminder: Roundtable talk on Wednesday to examine support for first-year students
Faculty, staff and graduate assistants are invited to attend a first-year experience roundtable discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The sessions examine the unique transitions, challenges and experiences of first-time-in-college students and transfer students who are new to SIU Carbondale. The session is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Faculty Staff Lounge in the Student Center’s Old Main Room.
SIU Student Distinguished Service Award nominations open
Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate a deserving student for a 2026 Student Distinguished Service Award by the SIU Board of Trustees. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. March 16.
Red Cross blood drive is Thursday in Morris Library
Morris Library is hosting a community blood drive with the American Red Cross from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in the library’s first-floor rotunda. To schedule an appointment, visit the Red Cross website. Enter SIUCMorrisLibrary in the “ZIP or sponsor code” section. Walk-in donors are also welcome. Donors will receive a $20 gift card.
School of Music hosts inaugural Woodwind Day
Nearly 180 middle school and high school students from throughout the region learned the nuances of playing woodwind instruments at the inaugural Woodwind Day, hosted by the SIU School of Music on Feb. 11.
Reminder: Traveler training sessions set
The Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Office is offering in-person travel training sessions to help SIU Carbondale employees improve the travel and reimbursement process. The first session is Tuesday, Feb. 17, with additional sessions Feb. 19-20 and 26. Preregistration is required.
Reminder: Sturgis Public Service Award nominations due Friday
The deadline for nominations for the 2026 Lindell W. Sturgis Memorial Public Service Award, which honors an SIU Carbondale employee for their community work away from campus, is Friday, Feb. 20.
