SIU School of Music hosts chamber ensemble Feb. 27
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Music students will highlight their combined talents with a chamber ensemble on Friday, Feb. 27, in Shryock Auditorium. The free, public concert begins at 7 p.m.
The ensembles will showcase the talents of about 30 students in low brass collective, percussion, trumpet and strings ensembles, said Jessica Butler, assistant professor of low brass.
Butler said her idea for the concert is to “showcase our active chamber ensembles at one time and place.” The individual ensembles will also each have their own recitals later this semester.
“We often have separate concerts, but I thought it would be fun to have more variety for the audience,” Butler said. “I also wanted this concert to be early in the semester so that our groups would feel the drive to hit the ground running in our music preparation.”
The concert is expected to last about one hour, Butler said, adding that the audience should expect “a total variety of ensembles and styles.”
“The music will be accessible, fun and exciting,” she said. “We have extremely vibrant chamber music at the School of Music, and I am excited to see it showcased.”
