SIU’s STEM Education Research Center offers service-learning opportunities
SIU Carbondale’s STEM Education Research Center is hosting two upcoming volunteer service-learning days in the Shawnee National Forest’s Panther Den Wilderness area in Union County.
Students can register now for 2026 Creative Activities and Research Presentations
Registration is now open for the Creative Activities and Research Presentations (CARP), set for Thursday, April 9, at the Student Center in the second-floor Art Alley. Students are invited to display posters explaining their projects. Interested faculty and graduate students may also register to serve as judges.
Show your support for Special Olympics at Feb. 28 Polar Plunge
Noting SIU’s vital role in the founding of the Special Olympics, registration is underway for the Feb. 28 Polar Plunge at Campus Lake, as Special Olympics Illinois kicks off its 2026 year-long 50th anniversary celebration.
Reminder: Take the Campus Climate Survey
Faculty and staff are reminded to check their inboxes for an invitation from Viewfinder to take the SIU System’s Campus Climate Survey, which is underway through March 2. If you have not received it, check your junk/email spam folder in case the email went there.
Traveler training sessions set
The Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Office is offering in-person travel training sessions to help SIU Carbondale employees improve the travel and reimbursement process. Training sessions are Feb. 17-20 and Feb. 26.
Free mental health first aid training, certification offered
Sign up now and earn your mental health first aid certification at no cost. SIU’s Wellness and Health Promotion Services is offering two training sessions to help participants learn how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health challenges or substance use.

The Department of Public Safety’s February 2026 issue of the “Saluki Watch Dawg” is available. In this month’s edition, learn about the department’s accreditation efforts, personal safety strategies and available mental health resources on campus — along with several DPS education and awareness presentations.
Saluki men’s, women’s hoops teams in action
The Saluki men’s and women’s basketball teams each play a pair of games at Banterra Center over the next week. The Saluki men’s basketball team hosts Evansville at 7 p.m. today (Feb. 12) and Bradley at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15. The women’s basketball team hosts Illinois State at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 and Bradley at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, following the men’s game. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
