SIU business students win ‘gold standard’ financial analysis competition for St. Louis region
Thousands of hours of hard work and preparation and more than a few sleepless nights paid off recently for a quartet of SIU Carbondale students when they claimed the top prize in the St. Louis CFA Institute Research Challenge, besting stiff competition from the likes of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Washington University, St. Louis University and the University of Missouri St. Louis.
Saluki Ball: Supporting current SIU students
The third annual Saluki Ball, a major fundraiser for current SIU students, is coming to Carbondale. Hosted by Chancellor Austin Lane and his wife, Loren, the event will be on Saturday, April 26, at the SIU Student Center Ballrooms.

SIU plans special events to observe total lunar eclipse
SIU Carbondale will play host to sky-watchers of all types during a total lunar eclipse. The university will open the observation areas on the lawn at the Neckers building during the event, set overnight for the evening of March 13-14.

SIU’s Paul Simon Institute to host discussion on expanding educational equity
Melissa Connelly, CEO of OneGoal, will join SIU Carbondale’s Paul Simon Public Policy Institute for a virtual conversation on March 18 to discuss the barriers facing first-generation and low-income students in achieving a college education.
SIU to host digital drafting and design competition for 50 high school students
About 50 students from four area high schools who have an interest in architecture, construction and interior design will be at SIU Carbondale on Friday, March 7, for the Illinois Design Educators Association regional competition.
A busy week in Saluki sports
At noon today (March 6), the men’s basketball Salukis will face Indiana State in the State Farm MVC Tournament in St. Louis. Back at the Banterra Center, women’s basketball will play Bradley at 6 p.m. tonight and Illinois State at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8. On Saturday and Sunday, the softball team hosts the Saluki Invitational, playing Wisconsin at 1:30 p.m. and Northern Illinois at 4 p.m. both days. Proposals for 2025-2026 Saluki Online Faculty Fellow welcome
Eligible SIU Carbondale faculty are invited to submit proposals to be the 2025-2026 Saluki Online Faculty Fellow to investigate ways to increase online course and program quality and enrollment. The deadline is April 1. For more information, visit the SIU Online and Extended Campus website.
‘Dinner with 12 Salukis’ strengthens alumni, student bonds
The SIU Alumni Association continues to foster meaningful relationships between students and alumni through its popular “Dinner with 12 Salukis” program, now in its fourth year.
New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday
Members of the New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty and guests, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale. The performance will celebrate the music of Roger Davidson, Rodgers Grant, Charlie Haden, Ronnie Laws, Wayne Shorter and Frank Wess. The service will also be livestreamed on the Jazz Vespers at Epiphany Facebook page.
Reminder: SIU System Faculty Collaboration Award nominations welcome
The Faculty Advisory Committee for the SIU System (FACSS) is accepting applications for the 2025 Faculty Collaboration Award, recognizing faculty for impactful collaborative endeavors between SIU System institutions. The deadline is April 18.
No SIU Today next week
Like much of campus, SIU Today will be on spring break next week. It will return on March 17. The deadline for that edition remains the same: March 13.
