SIU Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble to present ‘AMEN!’
Almost 80 SIU Carbondale students will perform a series of spiritual songs when they present “AMEN!” at Shryock Auditorium in a free performance at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
Zero Waste Station at International Food Festival spotlights sustainability initiatives
The Office of Sustainability is promoting sustainability and green initiatives of all kinds across campus, and its latest promotion, a Zero Waste Station at the International Food Festival on Feb. 5, was a huge success.
‘Journey to the Sun’ talk focuses on sounds of nature during eclipses
Brent Pease, assistant professor in the forestry program at SIU Carbondale, will discuss “Eclipse Soundscapes: Partnering with the public to illuminate the effects of eclipses on wildlife,” during the next “Journey to the Sun” talk set for 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Guyon Auditorium in Morris Library.
Roland Burris: Trailblazer, philanthropist, Saluki
Former U.S. Sen. and SIU alumnus Roland Burris has held many titles during his career, but none may be more apt than trailblazer. Burris has donated $100,000 to establish the Burris Financial Emergency Fund for students who need financial help to stay enrolled at SIU.
Virtual appointments available for faculty, staff regalia sale on March 20
Events and Outreach is announcing a virtual faculty and staff regalia sale through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia. Graduate students wishing to purchase regalia rather than rent are also welcome.
Course to assist in online teaching practices, strategies is Thursday
“Promoting Inclusive Online Pedagogy,” the next monthly online Teams session offered by Extended Campus to assist SIU Carbondale online faculty and instructors, is from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
Reminder: SIU System Faculty Collaboration Award nominations open
Applications are being accepted for the 2025 Faculty Collaboration Award. The annual award recognizes faculty for impactful collaborative endeavors across SIU System campuses. Apply online by April 18.
Register now for SIU’s Southern Illinois Drug Awareness Conference
A two-day conference at SIU on March 13-14 will bring together a diverse group of participants to focus on substance use, mental health and homelessness, and how these issues correlate. An early bird registration discount is available by Thursday, Feb. 27.
