SIU Carbondale’s spring 2025 enrollment rises

SIU Carbondale’s spring 2025 enrollment is up 3.3%, or 344 students, compared to last year. The increase – the second year in a row of over 3% – follows a fall that saw the highest overall boost in the number of students in 33 years.


SIU to celebrate Black History Month 2025 with numerous activities

SIU Carbondale commemorates February as Black History Month with a variety of special presentations, exhibitions and activities. The kickoff that launches the SIU systemwide celebration “The History of Black History,” is at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, in Morris Library's John C. Guyon Auditorium.


Nearly 1,000 students to visit for World Languages and Cultures Day 

Nearly 1,000 students from 15 high schools across the state will learn the history and future of languages and cultures during the 49th World Languages and Cultures Day celebration on Monday, Feb. 3, at the Student Center. 


2024 W-2s available through HRSS  

Faculty and staff are reminded that their W-2 forms for 2024 are available through the Human Resources Self Service (HRSS) portal for employees who agreed to receive electronic W-2s. For those who did not provide electronic consent, your 2024 W-2 form is scheduled to be mailed by Jan. 31.


Provost Faculty Fellow program applications open 

Applications are available for SIU Carbondale faculty to participate in the Provost Faculty Fellow program for the fall 2025 semester with possible renewal in spring 2026. The deadline to apply is April 1.


‘Journey to the Sun’ talk focuses on students’ experiences during 2024 eclipse 

A panel of students who held a variety of roles at SIU during the April 2024 eclipse will share their recollections and discuss the lessons they learned by being involved in the event during a “Journey to the Sun” talk at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in Morris Library's John C. Guyon Auditorium.


Saluki Con 2025 offers volunteer and exhibitor opportunities, discount tickets 

Saluki Con 2025 offers numerous opportunities for faculty, staff, students and campus organizations and units to volunteer or become exhibitors for the event at the Student Center on Feb. 15-16, with gaming on Feb. 14.


SIU’s Paul Simon Institute director to discuss presidential transitions 

John Shaw, director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, will discuss presidential transitions during the White House Historical Association’s virtual discussion at 5 p.m. today (Jan. 30). Shaw’s presentation will focus on the transition between Dwight D. Eisenhower and President John F. Kennedy following the 1960 election.


SIU Student Distinguished Service Award nominations open 

Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate a deserving student for a 2025 Student Distinguished Service Award by the SIU Board of Trustees. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. March 3


MFA students to present work at Saint Louis Art Museum 

Nine SIU Carbondale Master of Fine Arts students will present “Translations: Creative Research in the Media Arts,” a curated program of creative research, at the Saint Louis Art Museum from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31.


Saluki men’s basketball takes the national stage  

The SIU men’s basketball team hosts Drake at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in a game that will also be televised on ESPNU. Fans are encouraged to wear white to the game, which will also celebrate the decade of the 1960s. Tickets start at $10. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
