SIU Day at the Du Quoin State Fair is Aug. 31
SIU Day/Coal Heritage Day at the Du Quoin State Fair is Saturday, Aug. 31. The fairgrounds are open from noon to midnight, with SIU activities from noon to 3 p.m. Parking is free for all SIU students, faculty and staff with valid ID.
SIU Carbondale accepting honorary degree/service award nominations
SIU Carbondale is accepting nominations for honorary degrees and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2025 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Oct. 16.
FEM crews spend summer improving campus facilities
Over the summer, crews from Facilities and Energy Management improved SIU Carbondale buildings and conducted utility and infrastructure maintenance.
Registration open for higher education equity symposium in October
Registration is open for faculty, staff and students for the third annual Illinois Higher Education Equity Symposium at SIU Carbondale, Oct. 3-4.
Saluki Covid Memorial Garden dedication is Friday
The dedication of the new Saluki Covid Memorial Garden, created by Student Health Services, is at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, and everyone is welcome to attend. The garden is on the east side of the Student Health Center.
Saluki Open Pickleball Tournament is Sept. 6-8
Registration is underway for the fourth annual Saluki Open Pickleball Tournament, Sept. 6-8, on the Saluki Courts on campus. Hundreds of people from across the nation are expected to compete.
All ages can sign up now for SIU’s Rocky Ledges 5K/10K Trail Run/Walk on Sept. 21
The Rocky Ledges 5K/10K Trail Run/Walk, set among the beautiful, forested lakeside trails of SIU Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center, is set for Sept. 21, and registration is now underway.
SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available
The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for August 2024 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes guidance on international shipping export control laws.
No SIU Today on Sept. 2
There will be no SIU Today on Monday, Sept. 2, due to the Labor Day holiday. SIU Today will resume on Thursday, Sept. 5. Submission deadlines will remain the same: two business days before the desired publication date. Tuesday, Aug. 27, is the deadline for this Thursday’s edition. The deadline for the Sept. 5 edition will be Sept. 3.
