SIU’s Sunset Concerts begin June 22

The Sunset Concerts Series, a Southern Illinois summer tradition since 1978, kicks off June 22 with six weeks of free musical entertainment for all ages and interests.


SIU’s Karen Jones appointed associate dean and Graduate School director 

Karen Jones, a longtime faculty member and administrator at SIU Carbondale, has been appointed associate dean and director of the Graduate School.


SIU researchers get $100,000 more to treat toxic algae blooms with sunlight, nanoparticles

A research team led by Jia Liu, associate professor in the School of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering, will continue its work on mitigating a common but toxic problem afflicting small bodies of water throughout the country, thanks to a new two-year $100,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

SIU to hold inaugural conference for businesses to recruit students as employees 

The university is offering a special event to help businesses with the multifaceted challenge of recruiting employees. The Career Development Center is hosting the inaugural Virtual SIUC Partnership Conference from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28.


Down to earth: SIU soil judging team places second in national event 

A team of up-and-coming soil scientists under the guidance of Sam Indorante, instructor with the School of Agricultural Sciences; Amanda Weidhuner, a researcher with the STEM Education Research Center, and Eric Brevik, dean of the College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences, recently placed second in the nation in the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture competition.

SIU political experts: Trump has the edge in expanding GOP presidential hopeful field

With an already-crowded Republican presidential primary field likely to add more candidates to the list of 2024 hopefuls, political experts at SIU Carbondale believe the party’s mainstay at this point continues to be former President Donald Trump, with President Joe Biden facing no effective or serious opposition from Democrats.


New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday

Members of the New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, along with guests will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 11. NAJ was formed in 1984 among several School of Music faculty and has been in residence from that time. Learn more about NAJ.
