An “active threat” training on April 20 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale was a success, allowing teams to assess how they respond to an emergency, university officials say.
SIU profs: Economy is still fragile, supply chain issues have impact
The nation’s economic outlook is vulnerable and fragile, and a variety of supply chain issues, including fuel supply and prices, are impacting the economy and the public now and in the months to come, say three professors from the College of Business and Analytics.
Painter, art educator earn SIU’s prominent Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award
Emma Metz, a senior in painting, and Lacie Schneider, a December 2022 art education graduate, earned the 2023 Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award from the School of Art and Design.
Voya Financial to visit campus this week
Representatives from Voya Financial will be on campus Tuesday and Wednesday, April 25-26, to meet with university employees who are enrolled in the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Retirement Savings Plan or the SURS Deferred Compensation Plan. The meetings will be to answer questions and assist employees in planning for their retirement.
SIU hosts native plant symposium this weekend
A symposium on native plant life and issues affecting it is set for Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30, at SIU Carbondale. The theme for this year’s Illinois Indigenous Plants Symposium is “Illinois Plants in a Changing Climate.” The event, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Southern Chapter of the Illinois Native Plant Society. Registration is required.
Conversation on reporting bias at SIU is available
The April 18 Conversation of Understanding virtual discussion on reporting bias across SIU campuses is available for viewing. This academic year, six Conversations of Understanding have focused on findings from the 2022 Viewfinder Campus Climate Survey. Previous conversations are also available for viewing.
Horticultural Association plant sale is Sunday
Plants and flowers will be blooming for faculty, staff and students to choose from when the SIU Horticultural Association holds its plant sale on Sunday, April 30.
SIU staff encouraged to attend a virtual wellness session Tuesday
The SIU System will offer a wellness session for staff only on Tuesday, April 25. The session, “Work Smarter: Time Management and Self-Care Strategies,” is from noon to 1 p.m. As with the previous trainings, this workshop is supported by the SIU System president, the SIU Carbondale and SIU Edwardsville chancellors, and dean and provost of the School of Medicine. The administration encourages supervisors to allow their employees to attend this professional development opportunity, as operations permit.
