Saluki Pride: Melissa Viernow wears many hats to assure success for CDL and early childhood programs

As the director of Southern Region Early Childhood programs and the Child Development Laboratories (CDL) and senior lecturer for SIU’s School of Education, Melissa Viernow is constantly multi-tasking and stepping in to do whatever is needed and her dedication and drive assure the programs succeed, her colleagues say.

‘Let’s Talk Research’ monthly discussion is Feb. 1

The fourth “Let’s Talk Research,” a monthly virtual event that highlights research on campus, is set for Feb. 1.

Helpful information technology hints for a new semester  

The spring semester has started, and to help alleviate stress or confusion, the Office of Information Technology is reminding users of a few best practices regarding technology and the various resources that are available to them.

A/P performance evaluations due April 1

University policy requires that all administrative/professional staff have their work evaluated through either a formal or informal process, or a combination thereof. Formal annual performance evaluations are conducted between Jan. 1 and March 31. The rating period to be used for evaluations completed in 2023 is Jan. 1, 2022 to Dec. 31, 2022. Evaluation forms are on the AIS e-forms website. Completed evaluations should be sent to Labor and Employee Relations at LER@siu.edu or mail code 4319 prior to April 1, 2023. Nominations open for Sturgis Public Service Award 

Nominations for the Lindell W. Sturgis Memorial Public Service Award, which honors SIU Carbondale employees for their community work away from campus, are being accepted.

Two students win free tuition at men’s basketball game Jan. 14 

Two SIU Carbondale students — a freshman transfer in just her second day on campus and a junior with a legacy connection to the university — each won free tuition for the spring semester during the Saluki men’s basketball game against Illinois State on Jan. 14.
