Helpful information technology hints for a new semester
The spring semester has started, and to help alleviate stress or confusion, the Office of Information Technology is reminding users of a few best practices regarding technology and the various resources that are available to them.
Here are some keys for faculty, staff and students to start the semester off right.
Power on any technological devices that are needed for the semester and verify that they are working as anticipated.
- If a university-owned device is not working appropriately, contact SalukiTech at 618-453-5155 to receive assistance. If a personal device is not working, SalukiTech has a list of non-affiliate repair options in the local area.
- Connect to the university’s wireless network (Eduroam) on technology devices on campus. If you are working remotely, connect to SIU’s virtual private network (VPN) to access the university network and related resources.
- Request VPN access here or from SalukiTech.
- Login to SIU accounts such as Microsoft Outlook and D2L to make sure usernames and passwords are correct and appropriate access is granted.
- Request required software as soon as possible.
