SIU inks Saluki Step Ahead agreement with Carl Sandburg College
SIU Carbondale strengthened its commitment to students in western and central Illinois with an agreement to bring the expertise of a doctoral research university to qualified community college students by providing the option to earn their bachelor’s degrees remotely and at a lower cost in 10 academic programs.
Jia Liu named SIU research faculty fellow
Jia Liu, an associate professor in School of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering, has been appointed faculty fellow in the Office of Vice Chancellor for Research, effective Jan. 1.
Avoid phishing scams
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is aware of recent phishing attempts to impersonate Chancellor Austin Lane via email and text.
Lt. Gov. Stratton featured at MLK Breakfast on Monday
Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton is the featured speaker at the 41st annual Carbondale NAACP Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 16, in the Student Center ballrooms. The breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. with the program beginning at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome and tickets are available at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for youth.

As we prepare to resume in-person classes on Tuesday, Jan. 17, faculty, staff and students are advised to take precautions to protect their health and their community.

A guide to important, student-related policies, information and resources is online as a reference for all faculty, staff and students. You can access the “Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Guide to Important Information for SIU Carbondale Students, Faculty, and Staff” on the Office of the Dean of Students website.
Sign up for Touch of Nature maple syrup demonstrations
Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center is home to the popular annual Maple Syrup Festival, set for March 25-26 this year. Before that, the center is hosting two hands-on Maple Syrup Production Demonstrations, Jan. 21 and Feb. 18, and everyone is welcome to attend.
SIU Women’s Club meeting is Jan. 18
If you are interested in joining the SIU Women’s Club and would like to try it out, you are welcome to attend the group’s winter meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 18. The luncheon and social will be in the Chancellor’s Faculty-Staff Lounge at Old Main in the Student Center.
Faculty/staff appreciation game for Saluki men’s basketball is Tuesday
Saluki Athletics is inviting all SIU Carbondale faculty and staff members to be part of the men’s basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 17, when the Salukis face Evansville. Game time is 7 p.m. at Banterra Center.
