Avoid phishing scams

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is aware of recent phishing attempts to impersonate Chancellor Austin Lane via email and text.

A “phish” is a fraudulent text or email meant to entice unsuspecting victims into clicking a link, opening an attachment or disclosing sensitive information for malicious intent. If you receive a suspicious email from a non-SIU account or a text from an unknown number claiming to an SIU leader, it’s likely a phishing attempt.

If you have opened it, do not open any attachments or click on any links. University officials will not instruct any individual to conduct business on their behalf via an unknown number or personal account.

Please report any such instances to the Information Security team at security@siu.edu. You can also click the Report Message button in the top right corner of Outlook.
