Researchers pioneer use of psychology to optimize student pilots’ success

Researchers in the School of Aviation and School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences are examining whether sports psychology skills and techniques can help student pilots get in a good mindset and optimize their performances.

Illinois House Speaker Chris Welch will kick off the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute’s Renewing Illinois Summit on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Mandatory annual Ethics Act training begins Saturday 

Mandatory 2022 annual Ethics Act training for all SIU Carbondale faculty, staff, graduate assistants, undergraduate assistants, volunteers, student workers and extra help workers will take place Oct. 1-31 on the D2L platform. School of Medicine employees on the Carbondale campus will complete training using HealthStream.

SIU honors the inaugural Women of Action award winners

The university recently presented the inaugural Women of Action awards to recognize “everyday heroes” from diverse backgrounds who lead, inspire and serve at SIU and in the community. Organized by the Women’s Resource Center, the awards recognize women who overcome adversity in their workplaces and communities to prevail and advocate for anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion.

Southern Illinois Piano Festival returns to SIU next month

After a lapsed year due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Southern Illinois Piano Festival returns for a third run next month. The biennial classical music festival once again features the artistry and works of renowned pianists, master classes and clinics open to the community.

SIU will celebrate Homecoming 2022 October 10-15, and entries are now being accepted for several special competitions. Enter no later than 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5 to participate in the contests.

SIU honors three Families of the Year

SIU Carbondale honored three families as the 2022 Saluki Family of the Year winners during this weekend’s Family Weekend celebration, which was Sept. 22-24.
