Veteran higher ed professional to become SIU’s next vice chancellor for administration and finance 

Susan L. Simmers, who has extensive experience in higher education finance and administration, will become SIU Carbondale’s next vice chancellor for administration and finance, pending approval by the SIU Board of Trustees.


Brian Croft is the new director of SIU’s Touch of Nature

Brian Croft, a double alumnus of SIU Carbondale, has been selected as the new director of SIU’s Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center.


Conversation on combatting ‘diversity fatigue’ at SIU is Tuesday

This academic year, six “Conversations of Understanding” will focus on findings from the 2022 Viewfinder Campus Climate Survey.  Next week’s conversation will address “diversity fatigue” among faculty, staff and students and include a discussion why diversity fatigue is important and how to combat it at SIU. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon Tuesday, Sept. 27.


Campus community invited to join in Sept. 27 event fostering first generation success

Faculty, staff and students are invited to a virtual event focusing on fostering success for first generation professionals. “The First Gen’s Guide to Corporate America” is set for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 via Zoom.


Discounts available for equity symposium

Faculty, staff and students have the opportunity to attend the SIU System’s Illinois Higher Education Equity Symposium in Springfield, Oct. 3-4, at a 50% discount if they register by Friday.


SIU theater majors to perform their original works at ‘New Faces’

The School of Theater and Dance will introduce audiences to this year’s new theater majors during performances at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Communications Building’s Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater, Room 1045.
