SIU enrolls largest freshman class in 6 years
With its largest class of new freshmen in six years, Southern Illinois University Carbondale has enjoyed a second year of stable enrollment, totaling 11,107, just 1.4% lower than 2021. This fall, 1,518 Salukis are starting their college career, an increase of 6.8% over their predecessors. In 2021, the university welcomed 1,422 new students.
Saluki Pride: Michelle Kibby researches, teaches about the developing brain, serves as faculty ombudsperson
Michelle Kibby is fascinated with the intricacies of how the human brain functions, and as a professor of child clinical psychology and neuropsychology, she’s devoted to research and teaching to unlock the mysteries of the developing brain. She also advocates for her fellow faculty members in her new position as faculty ombudsperson. Kibby is also one of an elite group of faculty and staff chosen to participate in the inaugural cohort of the L.E.A.D. SIU Carbondale initiative. Ceramic artist presents lecture at SIU tonight
Malcolm Mobutu Smith, an associate professor of ceramic art in the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University, will present a visiting artist lecture tonight, Thursday, Sept. 8.
Forum on Supreme Court abortion rights decision is Tuesday
A free, informational session open only to the SIU campus community on the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision on abortion rights is from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the SIU School of Law Auditorium.
U.S. Senate expert to discuss 2022 midterm elections and future of the Senate
Ira Shapiro, an author, former senior Senate staffer and former U.S. trade ambassador, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute for a virtual conversation at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12.
New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday
New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.
