SIU research team wins $1.33M NSF grant to train sustainability-focused geoscientists

Sustainability is for everyone, and a research team led by Ruopu Li, associate professor, Earth Systems and Sustainability, is creating a scholarship program aimed at bringing that mindset together with science and engineering training to target low-income transfer students who will become the next generation of geoscientists.

Saluki Pride: Victoria Taylor supports TRiO students, chosen for State Doctoral Scholars Program

As assistant director of TRiO Student Support Services, Victoria Taylor goes out of the way to make sure students have everything they need to succeed and reach their full potential, colleagues say. She will also participate in the State Doctoral Scholars Program, an initiative organized by the Southern Regional Education Board to improve diversity in academia by helping minority doctoral students achieve their academic goals and pursue faculty posts.


SIU Carbondale accepting honorary degree/service award nominations

The university is accepting nominations for honorary degree and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2023 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Oct 19. Nominations are also open to the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.


Cornerstone to replace Hire Touch hiring system

A new online hiring system, Cornerstone, has been selected for implementation across the SIU System to replace the current system, Hire Touch, which will be discontinued later this fiscal year. SIU Carbondale’s offices of Human Resources and Information Technology collaborated with their counterparts at SIU Edwardsville and the School of Medicine in the search for a replacement product.


SIU grad seeks to improve ties between Black communities, health care industry

The dicey relationship between many members of the Black community and the health care industry distresses Roderick Campbell, but after completing his master’s degree in health administration at SIU Carbondale this summer, he’s determined to bring the parties together.


Saluki FanFest is tonight  

Saluki fans are encouraged to attend the 11th annual Saluki FanFest from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, Aug. 25, at Saluki Stadium. The free event for the entire family gives fans the opportunity to interact with members of the 2022 Saluki football team. Prairie Farms will be serving ice cream while supplies last. Saluki student-athletes, coaches, cheerleaders, shakers and mascots will be on hand to greet fans. Signups for Brown Dawg’s Kids Club will also be available.
