SIU profs among Illinois’ top innovators

SIU Day at the Du Quoin State Fair is Sept. 3

It will be time to break out the maroon when Southern Illinois University Carbondale again is heavily involved in the 100th edition of the Du Quoin State Fair.


Scoot around courteously and safely on a Veo

The fall 2022 semester features not just new students, but another recent addition to campus — Veo scooters. Faculty, staff and students are reminded about safety and courtesy when operating the two-wheel Astro 3 or Cosmo scooters.


ICYMI: Funding for research-related costs, key hires 

This summer, the university created a new system for recovering so-called indirect costs associated with externally funded research and service grants and for distributing the funds. In addition, key leadership positions were filled.


SIU Choral Union seeks community, campus performers 

The SIU Choral Union is getting back in full swing this fall and is encouraging interested community members and those on campus to join in the festivities. Rehearsals for the Nov. 15 concert in Shryock Auditorium start at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, and it’s not too late to register and participate.


What’s on the menu? SIU students to serve up copi at Du Quoin State Fair

Visitors to the Du Quoin State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 27, will have the chance to taste copi — formerly Asian carp — prepared by students in the hospitality, tourism and event management and nutrition and dietetics programs.


Saluki FanFest is Thursday 

The 11th annual Saluki FanFest will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Saluki Stadium. The free event for the entire family gives fans the opportunity to interact with members of the 2022 Saluki football team. Prairie Farms will be serving ice cream while supplies last. Saluki student-athletes, coaches, cheerleaders, shakers and mascots will be on hand to greet fans. Signups for Brown Dawg’s Kids Club will also be available.


Technology help is available 

The Office of Information Technology wants to remind faculty, staff and students they can receive help with technology tools and services from SalukiTech, the campus’ single source for technology assistance.


SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available

The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for August 2022 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes a story about U.S. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco speaking at the 2022 International Conference on Cybersecurity and information on international collaborations and conducting research abroad.
