Scoot around courteously and safely on a Veo
The fall 2022 semester features not just new students, but another recent addition to campus — Veo scooters. Faculty, staff and students are reminded about safety and courtesy when operating the two-wheel Astro 3 or Cosmo scooters.
More than 300 scooters are available to anyone 18 and older within the Carbondale service area, including students, Carbondale community members and visitors. Some helpful hints are available. Those include:
- Allow space for sidewalk accessibility when riding and parking scooters.
- Leave 3 feet of space (one scooter length) when parking to allow for sidewalk access.
- Please ride in bike lanes or on bike paths wherever possible. When neither is available, ride on the right-hand side of the road, or the sidewalk, while keeping in mind that pedestrians have the right-of-way.
- Once at the destination, park the scooter in any available approved scooter parking location. Properly parked scooters do not block sidewalks, sidewalk entrances, ramps or any other American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility resource, driveways or private property. Parked scooters should not block fire hydrants, outdoor furniture or other safety or pedestrian resources and cannot be parked in parking spots meant for cars and motorcycles.
