Seeking more efficient ways to make stronger structural materials

Sabrina Nilufar, an assistant professor in the SIU School of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Materials Engineering, recently received a two-year, $200,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study how to make specially designed structures built through additive manufacturing, one of the fastest emerging engineering research areas in the world.


NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson will speak at SIU Monday

Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP since 2017, will discuss “Leading the Fight for Justice, Equity and Equality” on Monday, April 11. He will speak from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms, with a meet and greet to follow from 4 to 5 p.m.


University adjusts spring commencement exercises

SIU Carbondale has changed spring 2022 commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 7. There will now be two, rather than three, commencement ceremonies at Banterra Center that day. Commencement for the SIU School of Law will still be on Friday, May 6, in Shryock Auditorium.


Saluki Pride: Renowned economics researcher Sajal Lahiri inspires others to follow in his footsteps

Sajal Lahiri, a professor in the College of Business and Analytics, holds the prestigious Vandeveer Endowed Chair in Economics and is a globally renowned scholar. Lahiri received the 2016 university-wide Scholar Excellence Award and has not only contributed significantly to the research in his field, but also to the next generation of scholars. CAM Festival to showcase accomplishments of students, faculty and staff

The new College of Arts and Media will host CAM Fest all month long to celebrate the creativity and scholarship of its students, faculty and staff, starting today, April 7.


Open forums set with SIU Global Campus executive director finalists 

Four candidates for executive director of SIU Global Campus at SIU Carbondale will meet with faculty and staff during a series of open forums beginning Monday, April 11.


Complete the diversity climate survey

Faculty, staff, students and administrators are encouraged to participate in the campuswide diversity climate survey, which will be used to identify strengths and opportunities related to diversity, equity and inclusion. On March 14, you received an email invitation to participate in the online survey directly from Campus Climate Surveys, LCC. The survey will be available until April 14. Open house for future students on Friday

SIU Carbondale will hold an in-person open house for prospective students on Friday, April 8. The free event at Banterra Center is for Salukis who will be new to SIU in fall 2022 or later and their families. For a schedule of activities, visit the admissions website.


Alumni Association spring member mingle is April 14

Faculty and staff who are members of the SIU Alumni Association are invited to the association’s spring member mingle from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 14 at the Guida-Moller Family Alumni Center.


New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday 

New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10.
