College of Arts and Media Festival to showcase accomplishments of students, faculty and staff

by Kamaria Harmon

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The new College of Arts and Media (CAM) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host CAM Fest all month long to celebrate the creativity and scholarship of its students, faculty and staff, starting Thursday, April 7.

The events will be throughout the SIU campus with a few held in Carbondale community spots. All events, except for the “Lucky Stiff” musical comedy, are free and open to the public.

H.D Motyl, associate dean of the College of Arts and Media, said there were always annual events in the past, but this festival will highlight much of the people in the new college.

“What I think is important about this inaugural CAM Fest is that we are showing how we are the creative hub on campus — not only with faculty and students, but the variety of what we are doing with scholarly and creative activity with arts and media,” he said.

Additionally, Segun Ojewuyi, dean of the College of Arts and Media, says CAM Fest will overall help the college by providing students with opportunities.

“Students will get a chance to showcase their work and give them something to look forward to every year,” he said. “The festival will encourage prospective students and donors. It will allow work to be presented to an audience, so people can have feedback on it.”
