SIU Carbondale signs four more Saluki Step Ahead agreements

SIU Carbondale continues to strengthen its commitment to students with Saluki Step Ahead agreements this week with Kaskaskia College and Rend Lake College on March 23 and Illinois Central College and Waubonsee Community College on March 22. There are now 16 agreements to bring the expertise of a doctoral research university to qualified place-bound community college students by providing the option to earn their bachelor’s degrees remotely and at a lower cost.


Conversation will look at efforts advancing an antiracist and inclusive campus community

A Conversation of Understanding virtual discussion next week will look at the “concrete action steps” taken over the past two years to advance the SIU System’s mission and antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon Monday, March 28.


Congressman Adam Schiff to discuss nation’s foreign policy challenges during Paul Simon Institute event

Congressman Adam Schiff, chair of the House Intelligence Committee, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Tuesday, March 29, for a virtual conversation about U.S. foreign policy challenges, especially related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.


Diversity climate survey reminder

Faculty, staff, students and administrators are reminded of and encouraged to participate in the campuswide diversity climate study. On March 14, you received an email invitation to participate in the online survey directly from Campus Climate Surveys, LCC. Diversity, equity and inclusion form a pillar of our Imagine 2030 strategic plan. The survey results will be used to identify strengths and opportunities related to diversity, equity and inclusion for students, administrators, faculty and staff. SIU alumnus, Pakistani journalist to discuss political economy of 24/7 corporate media

Syed Irfan Ashraf, a Pakistani journalist who earned his doctorate at SIU Carbondale in 2019, will discuss his research on the political economy of the 24/7 news production processes of corporate media on campus at 6 p.m., today, March 24, in the Dean's Conference Room, Room 1032, in the Communications Building.


Dinner with 12 Salukis offers networking for students, alumni 

SIU Carbondale alumni recently shared a meal with nearly 200 students as part of the SIU Alumni Association’s Dinner with 12 Salukis program.

The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra will bring back many memories — and maybe even a few cold chills — when it honors acclaimed American composer John Williams on Tuesday, March 29, at Shryock Auditorium.

Student Distinguished Service Award nominations underway

Nominations for the 2022 SIU Student Distinguished Service Award are being accepted through noon, Friday, April 1. The award, presented by the SIU System Student Advisory Board, will recognize students from throughout the SIU system, including one undergraduate student and one graduate student from SIU Carbondale.
